LYRICS TO "THE BEST OF MUSICAL TRUTH"

My Humble Prayer
Written for and dedicated to my dear cousin, Ashlyn Teed. Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©October 1997. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Tasi Fiso & Musical Truth
Lord please hear my humble prayer
Let me know that Thou art near
Hold my hand in the darkness
Let Thy holy spirit glare.
Help me see Thy bounteous blessings
In my trials, oh Lord, I pray
Give me strength to walk along
The stony path of life's sad song.
Let me feel Thy arms around me
Let me feel Thy lasting peace
Let this tribulation teach me
That Thy love will never cease.
Bless me Lord in my afflictions
Give me light that I may see
Bless me Lord with sweet intention
Help me love my enemy.
Lord please hear my humble prayer
Let me know that Thou art near
Let me feel Thy arms around me
Let me feel Thy lasting peace.

His Love
Words & Music by J. Kanahele Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©1999. All rights reserved. Vocalist: Keenan Kanahele
His love goes beyond the bend;
His mercy is here to heal us.
Still everyone's searching for Something to calm their soul.
Jesus my Savior, my friend, Never a deed unkind;
And though I may hurt you
Your arms are open wide.
You love me despite my weakness,
You love me despite the shame.
You loved me enough To suffer through the pain.
My world rests on your shoulders,
Never alone will I be.
Never have I known a love
Like the love you give to me.
We live in a world full of doubt
Afraid to partake of happiness
And here you are lighting the way
To eternal joy!

Courage
Inspired by Lupe (Funaki) Piena. Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©1996. All rights reserved. Vocalist for CD1: Lupe Funaki Piena. Vocalist for CD3: Britani Bateman.
As a young child I learned To be honest and true;
To the things I 'believe' in my heart
Even when this old world is cruel.
Yes, I learned to be brave, And I learned to defend
The precious things of the Savior
And 'endure' to the end.
As I strive to hold on to the things
That I know are true.
Temptations, they beckon to me
And try to subdue.
It takes 'courage' to win,
And nothing, to lose.
And now I plead for His mercy
As I struggle to choose.
Courage is doing what's right
In the presence of fear.
It takes 'courage' to do what I should
When no one is near.
Courage is my way of saying, "I will follow Thee…
When the world walks out on me."

Let It Go
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©December 1996. All rights reserved. Vocalist: Norm Thompson
Sometimes we hold on to nothing
Our hearts can't forgive and forget
We rejoice in the sorrow of others And say things we later regret
When we are hurt, we think nothing but dirt (worst)
Of the ones who have done us wrong.
The pain that we bear, we wish to be theirs
And suddenly we sing the same song
"Father forgive...they know not what they do"
Was the plead of the Savior when his work was through
His task wasn't easy yet he overcame
All the hatred of men, all the sin and the shame
Let it go, let it go, as the Savior forgave ev'ry foe
Let it go, let it go, there's no reason to burden your soul
For someday you'll learn it ain't worth all the hurt
To bear such a burdensome load
Forgive and be free there's no reason to grieve
Over things that weaken the soul - Let it go!

Come Unto Me
Words & Music by Roger Shinkle. Vocalist: Keenan Kanahele
When the weight of the world crushes in on you—
When your sins have become more than you can bear.
When those that you depend on turn their backs on you.
Remember there is one who always cares. He said:
Come unto me ye that labor
And I will give you rest from your toils.
Come learn of me for I am meek
And lowly in heart.
Take my yoke upon you
And you shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
When your choices have burdened you with sorrows
When the weaknesses within you seem to glare.
If you’ve run a little faster than you ought to do
Remember there is one whose always there. He said:
Come unto me ye that labor
And I will give you rest from your toils.
Come learn of me for I am meek
And lowly in heart.
Take my yoke upon you
And you shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
(bridge)
If things are so far wrong
You don’t know where you should begin
Remember Him who gave himself a ransom for our sins.
(repeat chorus, end)

Do We Despise Him?
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©June 1995. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Leilani Sofua, Tasi Fiso & Bertha Samoa.
How could Judas know the Savior, and betray Him?
How could Peter thrice deny Him when he did?
How can I profess to love him when I know in my heart
That my life is not in tune with him.
How can I begin to wonder what my life would be
Without his loving sacrifice for me?
How can I profess to worship my God, my King
When my life is not in tune with Him?
Do we despise him with our lives?
Are we grateful for his suf'f'ring, or is it a disguise?
Do we despise him with our hearts
Or are we really trying to do our part.
Is it hard to imagine him rejected and slain
Yet in my moments of weakness,
I deny him just the same
As men from long ago turn their hearts from him
We too, have turned our faces when we sin.
Jesus knew that this would happen,
He knew it from the start
Yet in his atoning sacrifice each of our sins has a part
He went to the cross to recompense the sins
That separate the world from him.
(repeat chorus)
*If only we will love him and live our lives in peace
With the simple grace and love he brought to you and me.

Take My Heart
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©1995. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Keenan Kanahele & Keala Settle
Trying to make things right for myself
Doing what I should do.
It's hard, sometimes, to remember
His love for me, and you.
Kneeling in supplication
Struggling with the Lord.
I surrender to His love And whisper these words:
Take my heart, dear lord Fill my soul with happiness;
Take my ev'ry wrong, and make it right.
Take my heart, dear Lord. I submit to your embrace,
Please save me with Your grace Take my heart.
"Peace be still", He speaks to me
"My child, I love you.
I will take your heart and make it whole
If you allow me to."
Cry no more I tell myself
He comes not to dismay.
My broken heart has shown him
My desire to heed his way.

Let Him In
Words & Music by J. Kanahele Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©June 1996. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Tasi Fiso & Bertha Samoa
He knocks at your door waiting patiently
For you to welcome Him with love.
He stands at the door of your trials
Hoping you'd say, "stay awhile".
Sometimes you feel inadequate to open the door
And you wish that He would come another day;
A day when life is better in the spiritual sense
And you won't have to hide or fear His presence.
And although He assures you He loves you as you are
And will never leave you to suffer on your own.
You question every motive for fear He'd turn on you
And wonder if He'd stay to see you through.
When in doubt, cry out to Him
Let Him know you trust in Him.
There's no reason to pretend you don't need a friend.
He is always there for you
When you need His strength, he'll see you through
When in doubt, cry out to Him-let Him in.
*When you're in doubt, cry out to Him-
Let Him in.

What Made Us Friends?
Inspired by my mission companion, Yvette Broederlow of Auckland, New Zealand; who gave me, as a gift a beautiful plaque with the chorus quote. Although we live in different countries, we always know we can just pick up where we left off...hence the essence of true friendship. Words & Music by J. Kanahele-& someone who wrote the chorus "quote". Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©December 1996. All rights reserved.
We relate heart to heart,
We did from the start
Two strangers were we,
yet we both believed
There was something to gain from each other
And that something is love to another.
The laughter and tears we've shed through the years
Will always remind us to be
The closest of friends through thick and thin
As time travels on we share a love from within.
Yet, we know as we go our way
That our hearts and mem'ries will stay-
"What made us friends in the long ago
When we first met well I think I know.
The best in me and the best in you
Hailed each other because we knew.
That always, and always since life began
Our being friends was part of God's plan."
What made us friends in the long ago?
Two hearts that 'share', to hearts that grow.

Never Before
I served my mission in British Columbia, Canada. We were on the Lord's errand 24 hours a day; and there was no way we were going to get through each day without our full commitment to Him and His work. Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©1995. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Shawn Keliiliki & Michellei Keliiliki Powell
Never before have I felt in my heart
A love for my Savior and King.
Never before have I done all I can
To nurture my spirit with His.
Never before have I longed for His love
And tenderness in my heart.
I know that He will bless me each day
If I 'live, like never before.
Never before has my life been full
Because I have chosen to follow Him.
'Spiritual passion' is my desire;
I'll love Him like never before.
I'll seek to know Him that I may become
A beacon to everyone.
He'll be there to lead me, and guide me
He'll love me like never before.
He says, "Come as you are, I love you for you;
You need to understand… Your mistakes are 'paid in full'
So reach out and take my hand."
Never before have I endured
The long road that leads to His light.
He's there at the end just waiting for me
To love me like never before.

His Eternal Love
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©December 1995. All rights reserved.
His calloused hands were gentle hands
His broken heart loved ev'ry man.
He walked the path to where we'd be
If we but live righteously.
His loving arms surround me
His gentle voice astounds me.
When overwhelmed with worldly cares
I kneel to him in prayer.
Jesus Christ our Savior,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
He died for you, he died for me
That we might live eternally.
He died for you, he died for me
That we might live eternally.

One Last Look
Based on a poem titled "Farewell to the Diva" by Ashlyn Teed. Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©1999. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Keala Settle, J. Kanahele & Jolene Bradshaw
One last look before I go
Words I can't share,
But this, you must know.
I love you today as I did when we met
You cared for me well, I shall never forget.
One last touch before I turn away
Though tears you shed for me today.
Be not sad, you'll see me once more
It is I who will greet you At eternity's door.
One last smile for me my friend
I promise we'll be together again
Think of me well as I will of you
The time that we shared Will see you through.
One last embrace, I wish you could see
The angels are here, They're waiting for me.
One last kiss as I bid you goodbye
To be with our Father 'Neath heavenly skies.
I'll wait for you there' ,
'Tis there I will stay
Until I'm in your arms one glorious day.
Remember me now, remember me then
'Til we're reunited in Heaven my friend.
Where we shall never be parted again.

Heart
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©December 1996. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Keala Settle, J. Kanahele & Tasi Fiso
Wherever you go, whatever you do
In this world there's one thing that only you
Can give with a smile to make life worthwhile
It's your heart, give your heart.
You go through this life doing so many things
You sometimes believe you're a hero.
But you don't stop to think of that humble man
Who gave with his heart 'til the end
When serving the poor and the weak
You must look to his kingdom and seek;
The joy that will come when your work is done
And no harm can be said of a faithful one.
Give your heart, give your soul
If it's the only thing left he will bless you with more.
Give your heart, give your soul
Give it all that you've got, it may seem like a lot
But there's so much to gain when you give like He gave
Give your heart!

An Angel for Me
Written for and dedicated to our friend and brother Joe Dela Rosa. The lesson of unconditional love doesn't get any better than this. Thanks for teaching us just that. We love you! Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©2001. All rights reserved. Vocalist: Michellei Keliiliki Powell
He sits on the corner and waits
For someone to send a smile his way.
Moments pass by Still, he waits for the 'one',
Who will come to make his day?
Nobody sees him, yet he's always there
'Testing our hearts one by one'.
Some see him as 'danger',
Yet he is no stranger
Just one of God's humble son's.
Years have gone by
Since this brother of mine
Had his moment of 'glory' to live.
But he chose a greater task to fulfill
It was to 'teach me how to give'.
Unspeakable love I can feel from his soul
As I struggle to 'overcome'.
He holds no grudges
To my weakness in judgment;
He delights in the Holy One
Years have gone by Since this brother of mine
Had his moment of 'glory' to shine
Still he chose a greater task to fulfill
It was to 'teach me love sublime'.
One day I sat beside him,
Ridding myself of my pride.
His eyes pierced my soul;
That's when I came know
He was an angel in disguise.
Then he stood up,
And spread open his wings
In all glory to God's name.
His task was fulfilled;
It gave my spirit a chill
As he embraced me with love unfeigned.
He came to teach me
To 'love' and to 'give'
No matter how hard it may be.
I never knew that such love could exist
'Til God sent this angel to me!

He'll Set You Free
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©March 1999. All rights reserved. Vocalist: Ali'i Kerr
Someday you'll learn to be humble,
Someday He'll make you see
That only He has the power to heal,
To cleanse and set you free.
Rid yourself of the pride that keeps you behind
For there's nothing you can hide.
Give Him your heart and soon you will see
His 'love' will answer your plea.
Never will He abandon,
And never will He forsake.
He only hopes you'll give Him
Your feeble soul to embrace:
He'll set you free when you give him your burdens.
He set you free, when you let him bear the cross.
He'll set you free, when all evil you forsake.
He'll set you free when you praise His holy name.
And someday you'll look back and treasure
The moment you knelt in prayer.
Still in doubt of the peace He'd give you.
When all along He was there.

No One
Joseph Smith, our beloved Prophet had a special relationship with God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. He was chosen in these latter days to restore the fullness of Gospel and he was faithful and true to his calling until the very end. Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©2000. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Kenny Yarbrough & Michellei Keliiliki Powell
No one can take away my 'heart'
Nor can they take away my 'soul'.
No one can change the way I 'feel'
Nor can they tell me what is 'real'.
No one can rain on my parade
Nor can they darken my brightest day.
No one can change what I believe-
Nor can they lead me to deceive.
Your light shines from above
How could the world Not feel of Your love?
My heart beats true, true to Your soul-
We both know, we both know.
No one has filled the world with hope,
With so much loveliness and grace.
Despite the worldly commotion-
No one has shown so much devotion.
No one will ever know Your heart
Nor will they ever know Your soul.
No one can ever take away
The friend I've come to know.
(repeat chorus)
*No pow'r on earth can make me deny
All that 'I feel', 'I know', and can't hide.
I give my all to You! I will die for You!
The 'truth' has been revealed
No one can change the way I feel!

Who Am I to Question?
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©March 1995. All rights reserved. Vocalist: Coreen TaiHook Williams
Who am I to question what the Lord foresees?
When my prayers have been answered
Why don't I believe?
I must learn to trust him
And His will for me.
Who am I to question what the Lord foresees?
When my heart is burdened I must turn to Him
For his spirit will lift my soul
And I'll feel a peace within.
I know deep down inside me
That He's always there.
Who am I to question if He really cares?
Why do I ask, when I don't want an answer?
What can he do to help, when I refuse?
If I remain as stubborn as I am
I'll hinder my own progress in God's great plan.
Who am I to question what the Lord foresees?
When He gives his answer, I will believe!
And I will learn to trust him and his will for me.
Who am I to question his love for me.

Heirlooms
Amy Grant
Up in the attic, down on my knees
Lifetime of boxes, timeless to me.
Letters and photographs yellowed with years
Some bringing laughter, some bringing tears.
Time never changes the mem’ry, the faces
Of loved ones who bring to me.
All that I come from and all that I live for
And all that I’m going to be.
My precious family
Is more than an heirloom to me.
Wise men and Shepherds down on their knees
Bringing their treasure to lay at his feet.
Who was this wonder, Baby, yet King?
Living and dying, he gave life to me.

Time never changes the mem’ry, the moment
His love first pierced through me…telling:
All that I come from and all that I live for
And all that I’m going to be.
My precious Savior
Is more than an heirloom to me.
*My precious Jesus
Is more than an heirloom to me.

What Do I Know?
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©March 1995. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Tasi Fiso & Bertha Samoa
What do I know of this humble man
Who willingly took part in our Father's plan?
What can I do to pay tribute to him
Who willingly gave his life for our sins.
How do I treat his love for me?
Do I continue to do wrong
While he waits patiently?
What can I do to know that he lives
To know that he truly forgives?
What are my reasons for obeying his word?
Is it 'only' for promised rewards?
Why is it only in darkness I call
When problems are big, and my light is small?
He gave his life because he loves you
And he'd give it again, and again.
It wasn't easy, but worth ev'ry pain
And his love for you still remains.
Come forth my child and partake of his love
Your weakness shall become your strength.
This is what you can do to know that he lives,
To know that he truly forgives.
Love unconditional he offers us all
To save all men from the fall.
Feeding the hungry and healing the blind
He says to all "seek and ye shall find."
Follow him closely and know that he lives for all!
The Savior lived and died for me.
What do I know of this humble man
I now testify of his goodness.
He lived and died to pay for our sins
So we must believe in him!

Here I Kneel
Written for and dedicated to Michellei Keliiliki Powell. Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©2001. All rights reserved. Vocalist: Britani Bateman
Here I kneel
Here I plead with the Father
He's the only one who sees;
Where I am,
Where I'm going, I wonder
If the path is right for me.
So unsure,
Yet the peace lingers in my soul
Father, give me hope
Give me strength to endure
For Your way is always sure.
Here we're faced With a need for direction
And the path seems so unclear.
So we ask, And we see 'his' reflection
In his arms there is no fear.
Just believe,
And you'll see where your treasure lies;
He will, give you hope
Give you strength to endure
For his way is always sure.
Just believe,
And you'll soon see you'll rise above
All the doubts and fears,
Clouds and tears, you'll go on
For you have the Father's love.

Angels Among Us
While watching a special on "Touched by An Angel" different individuals were interviewed. Some believed in angels and others did not. This song was inspired by those who did not believe in angels. Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©September 1998. All rights reserved. Vocalists: Bertha Samoa & Musical Truth
Angels among us lighting our way
Bringing God's miracles to each new day.
Our sorrow they know, so it's joy that they bring
They are God's helpers,
His praises they sing.
Angels, they glow with a heavenly light
Truth they will speak to better our lives
No harm can befall them, for God will protect
His angels from heaven whose truths they reflect.
Pay no attention to sorrow or fear
Always have faith for angels are near.
They strengthen our weakness and lighten the load
Angels reveal to us God's truths untold.
Angels among us are called to receive
They who are blind, too proud to believe
We are God's angels to help those alone,
To feel of His love, and guide them home.

There Is Peace
Words & Music by J. Kanahele- Laser Beam Publishing (BMI) ©1995. All rights reserved. Musical Truth Select: Keala Settle, J. Kanahele, Jolene Bradshaw, Bertha Samoa, Michellei Keliiliki Powell, Kaniela Kalama, Shawn Keliiliki, Fred Sheehan.
With ev'ry tribulation,
With ev'ry troubled soul-
In ev'ry form of loneliness
That you and I have known.
If we but pray for comfort,
The spirit He will send;
To bless us with the strength we'll need-
Endure to the end!
With ev'ry trial that comes our way
We need not stand alone.
Our Heavenly Father's light
Will lead us back home.
He'll take us in His arms,
In his mansion above
And whisper in our hearts
These simple words of love:
There is peace, there is peace
There is peace for you my child- There is peace.
In my arms, there is peace
I'll hold you through your trials
There is Peace!
*There is peace for you my child, There Is Peace!

MUSICAL TRUTH TOUR 2009

After numerous requests...Musical Truth will do a 10-day tour in October of 2009. We have had numerous requests (early morning seminaries, temple visitors centers, special engagements and firesides) and are now trying to prioritize each request. We will fly in to Los Angeles and head for Salt Lake City, UT; work our way down to St. George, Las Vegas, NV and conclude our tour in the Los Angeles area. Although we're on the Lord's errand, I'm sure He won't mind if we have a little fun. We will be in each town that we visit for 1 to 2 days max.

Former members of Musical Truth who live in these areas and even those who don't, who wish to join us, are more than welcome. Please email us at musicaltruth@gmail.com if you wish to be a part of this special event. Although this tour will be a whirl wind, it will be nice to have a little reunion with those who will be able to attend. We look forward to singing with you!

IT ALL BEGAN...

Musical Truth originated in January of 1994 when three friends (Aaron Keung, Kai Rapozo and Jolene Kanahele) got together and decided to form a singing group that would aid in their spiritual growth as well as the development of their musical talents. Other friends were invited to join and together they created a harmonious blend that can only be felt by the heart.

Musical Truth requires no auditions, nor does it require any of its members to be professional musicians. The only requirement is DESIRE. And that desire is to serve their fellowmen, that through their shining example; they will know without a doubt that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is TRUE!

Jolene Kanahele, Director
A native of La’ie, Hawai’i (Oahu’s North Shore) Jolene P.S. Kanahele is known for her “gift of music” (her trademark), which she has nurtured and shared all her life with the people in her hometown and beyond. Jolene’s irrefutable love for the Savior and her unshakable faith and testimony of the Gospel has enabled her to touch the lives of many through portraits she paints with inspiring lyrics; mere expressions of ‘hope’ in times of personal difficulty.

“Vocals are secondary to the purpose of this work,” says Jolene; to which she adds, “Anyone is good enough if they are willing and teachable.”

Since then Musical Truth has done musical firesides throughout the State of Hawai’i and beyond; they have also been involved in the BYU Hawai’i Recruitment Program with providing spiritual messages through song for recruitment firesides.

The reputation of Musical Truth has led to the production of three CD’s: “There Is Peace” (Vol. 1); “My Humble Prayer” (Vol. 2); and “His Love” (Vol. 3). The success of her music in Hawai’i has prompted the need to share her music on a larger scale both in the LDS and Christian markets.

Hawai’i’s renowned “Spirit of Aloha”, synonymous with Charity—the pure love of Christ, is the very message Jolene wishes to portray in all that she creates; simply because it applies to all who love God. There is nothing fancy about her work; no frills or no candy-coated melodies…Her ‘simple’ sense of style reflect the plainness and beauty of Gospel truths.

Jolene views uplifting music quite simply as “God’s language”. Therefore, she says, “Harmony is the only melody we should sing”…and that, dear friends, is the Musical Truth!

THE ORIGIN OF "LASERBEAMS"
"Laserbeams" as noted by Kaniela is Jo's nickname. If you're singing off key and try to hide when she asks one of the following questions..."Whose singing that note?" or "Whose singing flat?" You best fess up because she will make everyone in the room sing by themselves until she finds the culprit (which she already knows who they are). So to avoid the embarrassment and blinding lasers...just raise your hand and say "Me!"
